Vaccinations

All families should be encouraged to stay up to date with their vaccinations and be reminded to ask their medical providers about vaccines for both children and adults. Vaccines, such as Covid and the Flu, can be obtained at any local pharmacy without a physician’s order. If other vaccines are needed, an order from the physician would be necessary.

It is important that families understand that the Covid vaccine should be updated every year, along with the flu shot for both adults and children.

Children are required by law to be up to date on a wide variety of vaccinations.  Please check with the school nurse or the primary care provider to make sure that all children have the necessary vaccinations.

Each time the children receive vaccinations at a clinic, the parents should request an updated vaccination record. It is also important that the medical provider has entered all vaccines that the children received in their home country into the state immunization database.

Other Things to Know:

A parent usually needs to be present for a child’s vaccination appointment. Sometimes if the parent cannot be at the appointment, a specific form can be filled out in advance and signed by the parent.  Check with the clinic or pharmacy in advance to see if a form is available and if an adult other than the parent can bring the child to the clinic for vaccinations.

When you accompany a person to an appointment with their primary care provider, please ask the provider to review the vaccination records, especially for school aged children, to assure that they are up to date on all recommended vaccinations.
