Healthcare Services
Emergency and Urgent Care
Emergency rooms can be found at both Northern Light Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital
For Urgent/Walk-In Care, the only option is Convenient MD at 543 Broadway Bangor, which is open 8am-8pm 7 days a week
Dental
Dental care can be one of the harder things for families to find and afford in the Bangor area. Consult this link for information on how to assist your partner family: dental resources in Bangor
Note that Dental Care is included with MaineCare for all children under the age of 21 in Maine. The difficulty can be finding a provider that accepts MaineCare and is taking new patients.
For any children in the Brewer Community School in Brewer or Down East Elementary School in Bangor, these two schools have PCHC Dental Clinics on-site and this is by far the easiest way to get children attending one of those two schools dental care.
Health Insurance and MaineCare
All children under the age of 21 are eligible for MaineCare regardless of their immigration status (this includes those that are undocumented).
Pregnant women are also eligible for MaineCare regardless of their immigration status (this includes those that are undocumented).
Adults with refugee status qualify for MaineCare for one year if they meet the eligibility income requirements.
Other adults with permanent residency are currently not eligible for MaineCare until they have had their permanent residency for more than 5 years.
Children with permanent residency are eligible for MaineCare at any point (i.e. they do not have to wait the 5 years)
People with asylee, refugee or permanent resident status are eligible for healthcare insurance on the marketplace at any time. To apply go to the Maine healthcare marketplace website:

Making Appointments at Penobscot Community Health Centers
Appointments for any of the clinics can be scheduled by calling the individual office, online at https://pchc.com/appointments/ or via the patient portal.
If your family wants you to help them with appointments and other issues at PCHC clinics, it is important that you fill out the Authorization for Permission to Verbally Discuss Health Information, Who Can We Talk To Who We Can Talk To.pdf
Keep a copy of the completed Who Can We Talk To form for your files as sometimes the PCHC office staff can’t find it.
PCHC School Based Health Clinics - available to students in Bangor, Brewer and Old Town schools
Cost: Variable. Accepts MaineCare, private insurance and participates in the PCHC Sliding Scale Program
Other Things to Know: Though students can walk-in, it is best to call ahead to ensure that a provider is available when you plan to go.
It is recommended that you complete the enrollment packet for all students in anticipation of having to use the clinic at a future date. The enrollment packet forms are available at the school office. All the forms (except the Authorization to Release Medical Information) remain valid until the student graduates from high school. The Authorization to Release Medical Information form is valid for 30 months. If the student’s primary care provider is not a PCHC provider, an Authorization to Release Medical Information form should be filled out with the primary care provider’s name so that the primary care provider will obtain a record of the visit.

Sports Physicals are $47 and are not covered by MaineCare. To avoid paying a fee for sports physicals, do not schedule an appointment but ask the primary care provider to fill out the forms based on the most recent annual physical.
